The Commented Medicines Repertory is published by the "Belgian Center for Pharmacotherapeutic Information" (BCFI). BCFI is a non-profit organization recognized and subsidized by the Federal Agency for Medicines and Health Products (FAMHP). The purpose of the BCFI is to provide information about medicines on the Belgian market to health professionals. This software application, which, like the website www.bcfi.be, opens up the Repertory, is intended for doctors, pharmacists and dentists, as well as students of these disciplines. There is a monthly update.
The purpose of this Directory is to promote the rational use of medicines. Rational use means that only medicines are used for which validated studies exist, that these medicines are used adequately (in terms of indications, contraindications, posology, interactions ...) and that the cost price is taken into account. In this connection, the notion of "evidence-based pharmacotherapy" should be mentioned: it is important to know what the evidence of the risk-benefit ratio of a medicine is.
